Up until the 1960’s, most golf courses were played on foot. Golfers had to carry their own bags, or pull them behind on a pull cart. If you were lucky enough to play golf at a country club, caddies would be provided to carry the players clubs. You could only get in one or two golf games a day because walking is such a slow pace.
The game forever changed in the 60's as technology evolved with the development of the modern day golf carts. These cars were built with gasoline motors to transport two golfers several rounds of golf laden with golf clubs. At the time, Cushman, Pargo, Harley Davidson and E-Z-GO were the major manufacturers of golf carts.
The frame, undercarriage and suspensions look allot like modern cars. The tire tread is designed in a way that minimizes damage to the turf grass on a golf course. Golf carts have a modern steering wheel, brake and accelerator and brake. To make sure the golf cart doesn't run away the brake is equipped with a lock.
Today golf carts have environmently friendly battery powered drive systems. These battery powered carts are rechargeable, and a charge can normally last through several rounds of golf. Although, on course will hilly terrain gas powered golf carts are still in demand.
The largest golf cart manufacturers today are EZGO, Club Car and Yamaha. Modern golf carts have many parts and accessories so the owner can customize to thier liking. The include golf cart lift kits, larger tires and wheels, custom dash's, steering wheels and billet aluminum wheels.
